Types of Damage
There are all sorts of damage that your roof can face, but there are three types that are presently more than the rest. The first one being weak flashing. If your roof has a leak your flashing has likely cracked. Flashing is the thin bits of metal that are installed underneath the shingles as well as on the joints. Then there is water damage. This is likely to occur after storms or after heavy rainfall. Lastly, there is wind damage. If your flashing is not installed properly, blow-offs can occur. If wind damage continues, the repair work can be quite expensive.
When waterproofing your roof, the waterproofing products need to be applied to a well-cleaned area for it to work effectively. Waterproofing your roof does not fix any structural damage nor does it fix large gaps and cracks in your roof. To spot where you may need some waterproofing done, take a look at your ceiling to see where the water damage is. When choosing the sealant, it needs to be flexible so that it can expand and contract in the heat or cold. If you have damaged tiles or slates, they need to be replaced or properly repaired.
There are always the obvious signs that your roof is leaking, but there is always the chance that your roof leaks that you are unaware of. A very obvious sign that your roof is leaking is if water spots on your ceiling or walls start appearing. A sign that might not be so obvious is if you have cracked or damaged shingles, this isn't so obvious because not all cracks may be seen from where you are on the ground. If you notice you have a leak or have a suspicion that you might be leaking, please get in contact with us so that we can take care of this for you.
